The Power of Reframe

For the longest time, I thought therapy was all about becoming the "aspired version" of myself. I remember when I signed up for my first therapy session I'd think to myself: "I want to be more ___ and less ___". There was a belief that I would "shed" old versions of myself and "become" the best version of myself. While continuous improvement is important, it can also be so damn exhausting when we constantly don't reach our aspired goal, which fuels this constant feeling of being "not enough". That's the double edged sword of self-help nowadays - we seldom take the time to accept ourselves as we are.
I recently came across a game changing reframe in Lisa Oliver's (nuggeteer of the month!) book that's brought me peace of mind. I think about it often, and I wanted to leave this here:
"When we heal, shift, grow, change and transform, we are not becoming better; we are simply returning to what we have always been. As we uncover what we may feel as new strengths, beliefs and discoveries about yourself, I invite you to remember that those aren't new. They've always been there" - Lisa Oliver (from her book: Already Enough)
I remember having a pretty big release when I read this for the first time. To realize, that everything I've been searching for, has already been within me all along.
Juicy Wisdom Nugget of the day: Therapy, is simply a badass toolkit for us to return home to ourselves. Sometimes the journey back to ourselves can be complex because it's often layered with things that happened to us that shouldn't have, and things that should've happened but didn't. It's a chaotic journey, and to know that the light we're looking for, is already within us, makes this messy and marvellous journey a bit more charming along the way.
